Alaska Chapter

President:  Ruth Armstrong

The Alaska Chapter was chartered in 1974 with 20 local members and 5 friends from Puget Sound who maintained joint membership for a year to satisfy the Society requirement of 25 members for a new Chapter. The optimism was justified and there were 50 members within a year. The Chapter is in Anchorage, a thriving community becoming a major air transfer point for goods going to the east.

The Chapter boasts a Section and University of Alaska Student Branch both in Fairbanks, 260 miles to the north.

British Columbia Chapter

President:  Les Pereira

The British Columbia Chapter was founded in 1952 in the Canadian Region 7 of ASHRAE. They voted to join the largely US ASHRAE Region X when ASHRAE was formed in 1959.  About this time, Richard P. Perry became an active member, becoming President of the Chapter in 1965 and Society in 1982.

Inland Empire Chapter

President: Jake Laete

Based in Spokane, WA, the Chapter includes northern Idaho. Chartered in 1950 the Chapter now has 86 assigned members and an off-and-on Student Branch based at the University of Idaho.  Jake Laete, RVC Chapter Programs, describes the area as "covering everything from computer chips to potato chips powered and irrigated by the Columbia River"!

Manitoba Chapter

President:  Jesse Sandhu

Chartered in 1935, Manitoba is the oldest of the Canadian Chapters in Region XI and the second oldest in Canada. Our first female member, Lou Anna P. Field, joined 47 years later in 1982.   Chapter member, Neil Childs, has been the Region Historian for many years. He has done yeoman work encouraging writing of Chapter histories and co-writing a history of Region X & XI.

Northern Alberta Chapter

President:  William Regan

In the 43 years since the Chapter was chartered in 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta, membership has grown from 20 to 208.  Meetings before Christmas are held in the university in the north of the city and after Christmas in the technical college at the south end of the city.  The Chapter was proud that their 1971 Chapter President, Don Holte, went on to become Society President for 1997.

Oregon Chapter

President:  David Landers

The 716 member Oregon Chapter is 60, quite an accomplishment. The Chapter is thriving as is their Willamette Valley Section. The Student Branch at the University of Oregon chartered in 1999 with Alison Kwok leading twenty eager architecture students.   Don Kroeker started the Oregon Diffuser in 1946. It had such a passionate following that a group wrote the definitive Manual of Policy for the Oregon Diffuser in 1953.

Puget Sound Chapter

President: Denny Whitzel

On May 12, 1924, the first chapter of ASHRAE west of the Mississippi River was chartered, the old Pacific Northwest Chapter in Seattle. Back then, there were 14 chapters in the U.S. In 1999 we celebrated our 75th anniversary as well as hosting the Society Annual Meeting, an honor and a lot of work! It went really well - thanks to Ivan Ittner and his army of volunteers.  The Chapter supports two Sections; Mount Baker and Rainier, which meet 3 - 4 times a year.

Regina Chapter

President:  Heric Holmes

Regina continues to grow.  The driving force behind this growth is a combination of an active membership chair, quality programming and joint meetings with RSES and Spec. Writers.

Saskatoon Chapter

President:  Jonathon Bushman

Membership is becoming increasingly active helped by popular programs including a local solicitor on the ramifications of contract law and a tour of Saskatoon’s first C2000 building.  The value of research is well understood as The University of Saskatchewan has had several ASHRAE research projects on heat exchangers.  The University will be providing some challenging design work to their members for the $166 Million Syncrotron project.

Southern Alberta Chapter

President:  Tyler Majcher

The Southern Alberta Chapter was chartered with 50 members one year after its neighbor in Edmonton. News of a good thing had spread south!  The oil and gas industry has fuelled rapid growth in the City of Calgary and provides a vast range of HVAC&R work for the active Chapter membership.

The Engineered Air Centre at The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology is the HVAC industry-training gem in the Region. The center was opened in 1998 for real-world training in a state-of-the-art facility. Manufacturers have provided a variety of HVAC&R equipment and control systems plus well equipped labs set up for all kinds of equipment, wiring, diagnostics and software training. As the Center develops we expect it to provide courses and educational materials for use throughout North America.

Vancouver Island Chapter

The skeptics became champions and the Vancouver Island Chapter was chartered in Victoria in 1985 with a paid membership of 27.  By the end of the ASHRAE year membership was 60! Today it remains steady at 61 members.  Next year marks 25 years of success.
